The Process

Looking for the perfect ring(s)?  Something unique to you and/or your partner? Justly Wed specializes in custom ring design. We can either redesign an existing piece or help you create an exciting new design all your own.

Justly Wed’s custom design process includes 5 EASY STEPS:

Consultation/design

With Justly Wed, you can explore your custom ring options in an open, gay-friendly space. Choose to meet with a designer in person (in the Triangle area of North Carolina), by phone, or through cyber-space chat. No pressure, no funny looks, no uncomfortable sales people.

The custom design process begins with your consultation. Our custom designer will talk with you about your style and budget, as well as listen to any inspiration, symbolism, story, or personal narrative you wish to share. Once the design process begins, you will have the opportunity to add your input and make changes before the final design is agreed-upon.

Computer Aided Design (CAD) Model and Renders

We use state of the art modeling programs to create a “mock-up,” a detailed image of your piece that reflects the ideas from your design consultation. These images will be sent to you for input and approval. Once we arrive at a design you are completely satisfied with, we move to the next stage—creating a wax prototype.

Wax Prototype

Often people are surprised to learn that fine jewelry is created from a wax model which is cast into a precious metal.  In the wax prototype stage, the model will be “milled,” “grown,” or hand-carved to create a prototype of your ring. Again, we want you to be completely satisfied before we proceed to the next step—the casting. Upon request, the wax prototype can be sent to you for approval.

Casting or Hand Fabrication*

Your wax prototype will then be cast in the metal(s) of your choosing.  We offer casting or hand-fabrication in any of the following precious metals:
14k Yellow Gold
14k White Gold
18k Yellow Gold
18k White Gold
18k Rose Gold
Palladium
Platinum

* Some rings are more efficiently made by a hand fabrication process. During this process, precious metal tubing is turned on a lathe and designs are hand-carved on the surface of the ring.

Setting and Finishing

The last, and often most complex, step in the ring design process is the setting and finishing. During this phase of the process, master jewelers showcase their skills and put the finishing touches on your ring. The stones are artfully and securely set, the ring is polished to perfection, and the final design is completed!
